What is pH?

Not just the potential of hydrogen, but also the potential to live a healthy life just by balancing the pH in the human body.

pH implies the potential of hydrogen. It measures the acidity or alkalinity of fluids. It is measured on a pH scale that ranges from 0 to 14. Where the Neutral pH is 7. a pH of more than 7 indicates higher alkalinity. Whereas, a pH less than 7 means a higher presence of acid. The healthiest pH level for the human body is one that's slightly more alkaline than acidic. On being stressed and influenced by a poor lifestyle and toxic environment, the body constantly tries to bring you back to a more alkaline state. This is why the body starts pulling minerals like magnesium and calcium from teeth, bones, and organs to neutralize these acids. Blood pressure, insulin levels, cholesterol, body weight, and immune system are all affected by changes in the pH level. When the body's pH level becomes too acidic, it is more vulnerable to different diseases like slow metabolism, obesity, inability to lose weight, high blood pressure, chronic inflammation, kidney and bladder conditions such as kidney stones, weight gain, and diabetes, premature aging, weak bones, osteoporosis, bone spurs and fractures, aching muscles, joint pain, mood swings, low energy levels, slow digestion and elimination, fungal and yeast infections, chronic fatigue.

Then, how do we balance our pH level?

1. Reduce intake of acidic food.
Eating a diet that has lower acidic properties As in, eliminating or reducing acidic food from the diet could be very effective for the body. Acidic foods include processed meat, processed cereal grains, fried foods, refined grains including white rice, white bread, pasta, caffeine, and alcohol.

2. Eat an Alkaline rich diet.
Foods that carry alkaline properties are leafy green vegetables including kale, spinach, and wheat grass. Other non-starchy vegetables such as mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado, radishes, cucumbers, garlic and ginger, green beans, and cabbage can be incorporated into the diet. Uncooked fruits and vegetables are considered for being biogenic and life-giving. Cooking foods decrease their alkalinity. Increased intake of raw foods can help in gaining high levels of alkalizing minerals. Besides, do not forget to include super foods such as barley, wheat grass, and maca root. Rely on healthy fats such as coconut oil or virgin olive oil.

3. Maintain good levels of calcium and magnesium.
These two minerals are of crucial importance for all the organs in the body. They are required for bones, the nervous system, teeth, muscles, and the heart as well. Low pH levels cause the body to absorb minerals from these organs to maintain the alkaline state which creates a deficiency of these minerals. Dark green leafy vegetables are a great source of both of these minerals. Other sources include seafood, dry fruits, and whole-grain cereals.

4. Drink Alkafina Water
According to the water research centre, there are a lot of variations when it comes to the pH levels between different sources of water. When water has a pH level of less than 6.5, it is considered acidic and contains toxic metals, and also has a sour taste. The ideal pH for Alkafina iodized water for long term consumption is between 8.5 and 9.5. Filtered water using reverse osmosis filtration is slightly acidic with a pH level slightly lower than seven. So Alkafina water is highly recommendable with a pH of upto 8.5.
